Winter Park is particularly wonderful to visit with kids during the winter vacations. The first weekend of December is packed with two major events. Central Park will be transformed into a winter wonderland on Friday for "Winter on the Avenue," which will have snow slides, s'mores, and strolling carolers. The Christmas tree and the menorah are lit, and everyone gathers around to watch. Ye Olde Hometown Christmas Parade music will flood the streets the next day. The parade has been going strong for almost seventy years, and it include such staples as marching bands, fire engines, and Santa himself.
