As Robert mentioned, we received a great deal of positive feedback from PC players who played with controllers throughout the Technical Alpha period. Because of this insight, we were able to mold, iterate, and tune the controller controls in a way that feels comfortable for the player while also accurately replicating the authentic journey of playing Diablo II. Introducing opportunities for PlayStation players to dive into Diablo II: Resurrected is something we are looking forward to.
Pre-ordering Diablo II: Resurrected will grant players Early Access to the Diablo III Open Beta, which begins on August 13 at 10 a. m. PT. Those who pre-order the Diablo Prime Evil Collection will receive a few additional in-game items, including the Hatred's Grasp Wings cosmetic and the Mephisto Pet.
We were well aware that we needed to exceed the expectations of Diablo III players. When playing the original Diablo II, a player only has two buttons to use: the left and right mouse buttons. Players can quickly remap these two buttons to access any number of other abilities by using hotkeys to quickly remap these two buttons. D2R XBOX One runes is a very inconvenient way to make use of one's abilities. With a controller, we changed this so that the abilities were not remapped, but were instead triggered directly by the buttons on the controller. These abilities are then displayed in a "tray" at the bottom of the screen, in a manner similar to Diablo III's display. However, due to the fact that players can have a significant number of abilities at any given time, we allow players to hold the left trigger to gain access to an additional six slots, effectively giving players a total of 12 slots to quickly launch any abilities.
